Delicious

Like many people, I'd heard rumors that Yahoo! was going to shut down delicious, the online bookmarking site. There have been similar rumors that Yahoo! wants to shut down or sell flickr, the photo sharing site, too. I wish Google had bought these companies instead of Yahoo!, but that's another matter.

So I went to delicious to see what they have to say about things and here's their latest blog entry on the reports. I have a lot, as in a LOT, of bookmarks on delicious. It's so simple to tag and add 'em in Firefox or Chrome, that I just do and I can search for them as needed. Most I never look at again, but I know they're there, just in case. So I really, really hope delicious can work something out.

After the Bloglines mess, I'm not as optimistic about the continued health of web services as I once was when it came to "name brand" sites. Sure, another company "saved" Bloglines by buying it, but it doesn't have the same pop it once did and now seems inferior to Google Reader instead of different but as good. And I lost the blogrolls on my blogs that came from Bloglines. So I hope delicious can find a better, more workable solution so it can remain as good as it is and continue to tweak, enhance, and improve.

Tumblr

I created a Tumblr blog to post quick links and fun stuff and some not really fun stuff. It's called Random Shelly, because, really, I'm running out of fun names for blogs that no one else thought of first. I've got a feed from here posting to there, in brief form. Truth is, I wish I could find an actual theme for it. Tumblr blogs work best when they specialize in something. But I wanted to play with it, so this is what I came up with. There are a lot of cool templates to play with, but unlike Blogger with its uniform widget structure, each Tumblr template works a bit differently. Fun, though.
